Alantutorial

Hello again friends, today I wanted to introduce you to a youtube project by artist Alan Resnick. I know lot of you wont like it and you'll think I'm crazy for finding it fascinating but what can I do, I just love this kind of weird and mysterious way to express and address something.

The project is called alantutorial and it contains a series of videos in which Resnicki plays a fictionalized version of himself, who is depicted as a reclusive young man obsessed with giving tutorials. The first alantutorial video was up on YouTube at 23 June 2011, so almost 4 years ago. In a few of the first videos he gives the tutorials about how to accomplish bizarre, often mundane tasks such as how to leak on a piece of paper or how to find or reveal wood. He is very obsessed with telling people to like and subscribe to his channel and his videos are very bad quality in every way possible. The sound, the angles, the way he talks and the little popping things who are telling you to like or subscribe and of course the point of the video is very very strange, weird and mysterious. Later on in the videos he does the typical YouTube things like challenges and unboxing and he is constantly saying subscribe like comment like youtubers do. Things soon go wrong again as Alan begins inexplicably destroying his room and then locks himself out of it. His sanity starts to slip even further. Undeterred, he continues to make tutorials despite his predicament, but is in one moment he gets captured by an unknown person and locked in a cell where he briefly gives up on tutorials and turns his attention to reporting on news stories. This phase passes quickly, and he start making tutorials in exchange for money from his unseen captors. During Alan's captivity he is living in a very unhealthy state. The room he in is covered in trash and Alan himself is dirty and in a strange white outfit. His videos barely have context anymore other than him talking to himself but in some you can see an unknown, mangled object spinning in the room during parts of the video.

His last video was posted on december 12. 2014. and it's the video of him escaping his room. I think this whole project is impressive and it represents, on a very an unusual way, a criticism for the internet culture with a dose of comedy and creepiness at the same time. Not much is said about this project and there is no artist's interviews or anything like that so it's still veiled in mystery and that excites me so much.

I decided that I'll just introduce you to this project a bit and tell you my general opinion without going into details this time. I'll talk about this more some next time when maybe I find out more or new video comes up or something like that. For now I would recommend you to go check out Alans videos and let me know in the comments what do you think about them.

Thanks for reading and don't forget to follow me on twitter so we can be friends.
