I Loved You

Hello again friends today I wanted to share with you and talk about one of my favourite love poems. I find the translation of it in English, Spanish, French, Serbian and of course Russian. It's called I Loved You and it's by  Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin.

В душе моей угасла не совсем;
Но пусть она вас больше не тревожит;
То робостью, то ревностью томим;

English:

I loved you:  yet the love, maybe,
Has not extinguished in my heart;
But hence may not it trouble thee;
I do not want to make you sad.
I loved you hopelessly and mutely,
Now with shyness, now with jealousy being vexed;
I loved you so sincerely, so fondly,
Likewise may someone love you next.

preso de celos y de timidez;
te amé tan sincera y tiernamente
como Dios quiera te vuelvan a querer.

Serbian:

Волео сам вас искрено и нежно;

Now that you read it and hopefully understand it I would like to say a few words about it and how I look on it. This poem in the most beautiful way possible shows how someone who is truly in love, despite all the feelings, needs and wishes he has towards her, puts the loved person's happiness and peace of mind before himself and everything he crave. He is saying that he is willing to suffer for her in silence just not to cause any problem for her and in the end he wishes her the best. He wishes that someone who she will love, love her back just the way he did.

Let me know in the comments what do you think about this poem. I know I love it and think that it showes what a true love is.

Thanks for reading.

  1. You know what? I think poems have to be in their original language. My native tong is Spanish so I can already see that it differs from English to Spanish.The essence may be the same but when you use so few words I believe they really are important. I do not the original words in Russian. What you said about love is very nice. To me my partner is an extension of me, the person with whom I need to be to feel that I am complete. That is the best definition I can find for love. I am so happy I have found that person....I hope it is not too corny

    1. I agree. I speak English, French and Serbian and I can definitely see the difference and I felt the song most strongly in my native language. That's so great, you are very lucky to find that person don't ever forget that. :)

  2. It's very like Adele's song Someone Like You. "I wish nothing but the best for you two".
